Former Jersey Centenier Ralph Mauger guilty of child sex abuse

A former Jersey Centenier has been found guilty of child sex abuse. (A Centenier is a senior member of the Honorary Police of Jersey)

The jury found 77-year-old Ralph Cyril Mauger guilty of five of the eight charges – guilty of the indecent assault of three girls.

He has been remanded in custody until 16th January 2013 – pending sentencing for child sex abuse.

Mauger denied seven counts of indecent assault and one of inciting an act of gross indecency, involving girls aged six to 14, and alleged to have happened at a house in Grouville between 1998 and 2006.

The jury were unanimous that Ralph Mauger indecently assaulted Witnesses A and B, and by majority in case of Witness C.

It was down to the eight men and four women of the jury to decide Mauger’s fate.

They sat through six full days of evidence, including testimony from the three alleged victims in this case, as well as hearing a series of character statements supporting the defendant.
