If the comments on the following article about Bilderberg are representative of the nation then fuck me, we are all surely doomed.

Never the less, those cretins that have commented have probably hit the nail on the head with Watford Mayor, Dotty Thornhill’s true motives for writing to the cunt Cameron about the cost to the county for policing Bilderberg.

Shame she wasn’t as pissed off about why our politicians are attending a secret meeting with the heads of various Multi national corporations and banks.

Either way, we pay the wages of both our politicians and policemen…. Therefore, we are funding our own downfall. You really couldn’t make this shit up, don’t cha know.

Watford elected mayor, Dorothy Thornhill, writes to Prime Minister, David Cameron, over Bilderberg Group concerns

The elected mayor of Watford has written to the Prime Minister voicing concern about the potential impact the Bilderberg security operation will have on the county’s police budget.

Dorothy Thornhill penned a letter this week to David Cameron saying she found it “galling” that the Hertfordshire taxpayers could shoulder the cost of policing a meeting for some of “the wealthiest people in the world”.

The Liberal Democrat said she also wanted the Government to understand the stresses the secretive conference had placed on the town and its public services.

The Bilderberg Group is due to start its three-day conference at The Grove hotel on Thursday and police are gearing up for a sizable security operation backed by anti-terror laws and a no-fly zone.

Elected mayor Dorothy Thornhill.

Representatives from the Government including Chancellor George Osborne and cabinet minsiter Ken Clarke will be attending the conference at the five-star hotel, as well as shadow chancellor Ed Balls.

They will be spending three days with the heads of global corporations such as Google, Amazon, Goldman Sachs and BAE Systems as well as other leading figures such as Christine Lagarde, head of the IMF, and former US secretary of state, Henry Kissinger.

The event is expected to draw a large number of protesters unhappy about the lack of transparency from the group, which does not release any minutes of its discussions.

In her letter, which was sent yesterday, Mayor Thornhill said the town’s local authorities and police had been given little time to prepare for the conference.

“The police have been forced to make quick arrangements with minimal consultation with residents, and these have had ramifications,” said the mayor.

She continued: “I am also very concerned about the additional strain this must put on Herts Police’s budget, which had already been set for the year ahead.

“While I realise the conference is funded by a cocktail of contributors, the local constabulary will surely have to pick up a substantial part of the tab, which is all the more galling when the participants in the conference are among the wealthiest people in the world.”

Yesterday senior officers from Hertfordshire Constabulary confirmed the Bilderberg Group had made a “donation” to the policing costs of the conference.

However they declined to reveal the amount and said the final cost of the operation was still uncertain.

Last week the Watford Observer revealed that Hertfordshire Constabulary was in discussions with the Home Office to secure an emergency grant to help meet the costs of policing the Bilderberg conference.

The Home Office will not confirm an application had been made from the constabulary. Yet the minimum a force can apply for is one per cent of its annual budget, which in Hertfordshire’s case would mean a sum of at least £1.7 million.

In her letter Mayor Thornhill said she was confident the police were prepared for the event and that it would pass off peacefully.

She also acknowledged that the conference would have a “positive impact” for the town as it meant extra trade for The Grove.

The Grove hotel.

The mayor concluded the letter, which was copied to Chancellor George Osborne, saying: “I am however confident the police are prepared for every eventuality, be it a major terrorist threat, or disruption from protesters or aggrieved residents.

“The police have been in contact with the main protesting group and we believe the conference will pass off peacefully.

“However please do convey to your representatives attending later this week that this has only been achieved through considerable hard work from people here, who are still trying to do their day job. It has been a difficult few weeks, and it is important those in Central Government understand that.”

Is this idiotic Mayor suggesting the Bilderberg group pay for the policing costs? It seems so. Poor deluded dotty, she’s lost the plot once again. The Bilderberg group are not likely to cause problems, it is nutty greens and other misfits and terrorists that the police are needed for.

I believe the policing bill should be picked up by the government and not the local taxpayers, but to suggest the Bilderbergs pick up the tab is to fundamentally misunderstand the responsibility of the public bodies and their role. Still, she is a Lib Dem so we shouldn’t expect too much from her, should we?

“While I realise the conference is funded by a cocktail of contributors, the local constabulary will surely have to pick up a substantial part of the tab, which is all the more galling when the participants in the conference are among the wealthiest people in the world.” – Dotty

I find it more galling we have such a stupid bunch of councillors in charge of Watford, the Mayor being the cherry on top of, not the cake, but the custard pie.

Clearly Dotty is not a fan or rich and successful people, just like Mark Watkin seems anti-business with his rant at the Grove, both are equally clueless. The know how to levy taxes, spend them and tell people how to live their lives down to the pettiest levels, but they seem to fail to understand how the world actually works and that without business there are no taxes.

Dotty, no use going on at Bilderberg. Sit back, have a think and then have another stab at who should pick up the tab for this. You’ll get there in the end (with a bit of luck).

What a shower!

Well done Dotty a bit of posturing I think, it has already been stated that Bilderberg are contributing, and that an application has gone in for emergency funding; ultimately it is nothing to do with Dotty and everything to do with the PCC, being the elected person responsible for policing.
As for my little UKIP devotee Marslander I think the alien Lizards are getting to him/her
Cuetip seems to have summed up the agenda in her/his first post, the second being irrelevant and surly him/her being a bit sarcastic.ultimately Austerity has failed and these people meeting at the grove have advocated and implemented this policy, therefore it is only right to protest the meeting.

Good luck to all the non BNP/EDL/ and other racist protesters

I think this is missing the point. Why has Dorothy written to the PM on this issue and then press released it? The reason of course is that this Conference is going to be all over the national media and she is hoping to grab a bit of this media attention for herself. The fact is that policing is a County matter and nothing to do with the Mayor. Why haven’t we seen a letter to the PM from the Mayor over the government withdrawal of financial support for the modernisation of Watford Hospital? Why no letter about the massive cut in govt funding for statutory local services.? Why no letter protesting at the forced cuts in local services? Why no letter protesting at the relegation of Watford from being a major rail interchange to a mere stop on a suburban line? Of course the reason there are no letters is that Dorothy puts her party political interest in supporting the coalitiongovtahead of her job of standing up for the people of Watford! Labour championed elected Mayors but Dorothy has been a big disappointment.

This does seem an odd request. It is like asking the players to pay for the police at football grounds, when in fact it is the crowd that pays as part of the ticket price.
This seems fair, as it is the crowd that need policing.
If the crowd turned up but the players didn’t, you would still need police. But if the 22 players turned up but not the crowd, then you would not need the police. So we would all agree it would be unfair to charge the players, right?

So what is the difference?

Whether the comparison is valid or not, surely there is no need to be nasty in your reply.

Just because something doesn’t fit with your feelings there is no need to be vindictive and derogatory.

How lcharming of the Grove to assist police surveillance by providing space for the protesters within the cosy security perimeter as well as grabbing some extra publicity by offering space for the protesters. I hear the lovely space comes with nearby parking.

Dorothy mentions the “main protesting group”. Does she mean the Fringe Festival? Can I remind Dorothy that on the 29th of May ADMIN said on the Fringe website “It is NOT a protest so NO, masks, placards and megaphones are not necessary.” They applied for an alcohol license and arranged a music festival with bands booked and the suggestion to bring your own sound system. The Fringe are not protestors, they are partygoers looking for an excuse to party. They do not represent concerned protestors.

it is all very well moaning about the cost but come on even with the policing there is so much more of concern.
terrorist legislation will be invoked what does this mean?
1) will local public land be made inaccessible for security reasons
2) how much will locals be inconvenienced?
3) Will protesters rights be usurped?

Well first of all, what is wrong with having a job sweeping up? Someone has to do it, and yet you, with your wonderful ideas of equality and justice for the world quite clearly look down your nose at them as your inferiors intellectually.

Are they below you, in the same way you claim the ‘lizard people’ are above you, which you resent so much?

Well, in a way it is. You make a comment, I prove it to be incorrect, hypocritical or irrational. That is usually how debates work, isn’t it?

That is all I have done so far. It wouldn’t be so easy if you didn’t have so many nutters on your side.

More broadly speaking, that may be how debates ‘work’ in your world. In our world, debates provide information.
